In many cases additional travel documents for Oman are necessary. Read the following information to find out more about Oman’s required documents.
List of Travel Documents for Oman
Depending on your circumstances, you may need to present a range of Oman travel documents upon arrival at the Oman border to gain entry.
All travelers to Oman should consider whether they require the following documents:
- Omani visa
- Residence permit
- Valid passport
- Yellow fever certificate
- Medication prescription
- Proof of onward travel
- Proof of hotel or other accommodation booking
- Travel insurance
The following sections go into detail regarding the travel documents for Oman listed above.
Omani visa
An approved Omani visa is one of the documents required to travel to Oman that almost every foreign citizen needs to obtain.
Only citizens of GCC countries do not require an Omani visa to visit the Sultanate. All other nationalities need a visa for Oman, regardless of their travel plans.
Fortunately, most foreign nationals are eligible for the Omani eVisa. This permit can be applied for online in just a matter of minutes and removes the need to submit an application in person at an embassy or consulate.
Note: Those applying for an eVisa for Oman should revise the eVisa requirements for Oman prior to applying.
Residence permit
There may be cases where your place of residence deems you eligible to apply for a tourist visa for Oman. If this is the case, applicants will be required to provide a valid residence permit when completing the application.
This document may also be requested when arriving at the border. For example, those residing in a GCC country will be required to provide their Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) residence permit.
Valid passport
Almost all visitors must present a valid passport to gain entry to Oman. All travelers must ensure their passport has at least a remaining 6 month’s of validity. This is the minimum passport validity for travel to Oman.
If applying for an eVisa, when filling out the Oman eVisa application form, you'll be asked to fill out your passport details. Be sure to double-check the validity of your passport when completing the form.
Holders of an Oman eVisa with dual nationality should take care to travel with the same passport they used to complete the online application. This is because the eVisa is linked to one specific passport.
Yellow fever certificate
A yellow fever certificate may be one of the documents required to travel to Oman. However, this depends on whether you will be traveling from a fellow fever belt country. It's important to check this requirement prior to travel.
In the case that you do require the vaccine, be sure to carry the certificate which is printed on yellow paper/card and is internationally recognized.
Medication prescription
Certain substances are banned in other countries which is why it is always a good idea to carry your prescription on you when traveling.
If you are unsure whether your medication is permitted in Oman, you can check with the doctor who prescribed it. You can also ask for a doctor’s note in addition to carrying the prescription to provide further evidence of the necessity for taking the medication.
Proof of onward travel from Oman
When crossing the Omani border, immigration officials may ask the traveler to show proof of a return flight or onward travel to a third country.
Although this may not always be solicited, it is a good idea to carry return/onward tickets to show to border staff to avoid problems entering the Sultanate.
Proof of accommodation booking in Oman
Those traveling with a tourist visa may also be asked to show proof of a hotel or other accommodation booking in Oman. This could take the form of a printout of a reservation for the accommodation.
Travel insurance for travel to Oman
It's not currently mandatory to have travel insurance for travel to Oman. Border officials will not check to see if the visitor has an approved insurance policy.
Nevertheless, travelers may wish to take out insurance to cover their stay, in the event that they need to seek medical assistance while in the country.
